Descending the Psychedelic Abyss
This exhibition comprises a collection of eight images and a photo collage of all images. It was inspired by a recent exploration of Stony Batter on Waiheke Island which is a Coastal Defence Fortress built for World War II.
Venturing through the 1.2km labyrinth of tunnels, I was mesmerised by the interplay of light and shadow that transformed the underground space into a sensory spectacle.
The constantly shifting hue and colour, reminiscent of a psychedelic symphony, guided the tour group into the depths of Waiheke Island as we descended the Grand Staircase some 42 meters below ground to the Engine Room and associated Operations Rooms.
Wishing to capture this ethereal experience through my lens, I present viewers with a collection of images that evoke the enchantment of the underground journey.
Some photographs portray silhouetted figures against the vibrant backdrop of changing light, while others vividly depict the dynamic play of colours dancing across the tunnel walls.
These works invite viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of the underground world, and are available for sale.
